NuvaRing® Lawsuit Update: $100 Million Settlement Will Be Fully Funded by August 2014

The terms of the NuvaRing® Master Settlement Agreement have been satisfied, which prompted Federal MDL Judge Rodney Sippel, the St. Louis judge presiding over the NuvaRing® Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 1964, Case No. 08-md-1964), to enter an order requiring the settlement to be fully funded by August 13, 2014. Approximately 3,800 claimants will share in the settlement, which compensates women for their injuries allegedly caused by the NuvaRing® birth control method Such injuries include strokes and serious blood clots, such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
NuvaRing® is the trade name for a vaginal contraceptive ring manufactured Merck (formerly Schering-Plough, formerly Organon). It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2001. Once the drug hit the market, there were a multitude of reports of alleged injuries suffered by women using NuvaRing®.
