Viapro Herbal Supplement Recalled
August 14, 2008
On July 23, 2008, drug manufacturer EG Labs announced that it was voluntarily recalling all 375mg capsule lots of its herbal supplement Viapro. Viapro is an herbal supplement sold nationwide by EG Labs to treat erectile dysfunction in men and is marketed as an alternative to prescription Viagra.
The recall was a consequence of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finding that some lots of the drug contained a potentially harmful ingredient, thio-methisosildenafil. This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription medications, causing blood pressure to fall to dangerous levels. Individuals particularly at risk are those with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease as medications for those disorders often contain nitrates. Viapro was sold nationwide. EG Labs has not received any reports of injuries.
